One-way ticket
Featuring Julian Curico. Eden Jetschmann, Celine Rodrigues Monteiro, Yours Christina, Kareem Baholzer, and Rhama
ONE WAY TICKET is a body of work that utilizes performance, video, photography, fashion design, poetry, and social media to explore themes typically marginalized or suppressed within Western society. Through the lens of self-representation, the project draws parallels between Naya's personal narrative encompassing immigration, HIV, and medical transition, confronting the viewers with (their) issues surrounding representation, authority, and the elusive nature of reality.
Central to the project is the controversial alter ego Lux Venérea (as in “Venereal”), a provocative persona that appropriates the performativity and narcissistic aesthetics of social media influencers to turn censored topics viral. Under the username “@Bundaskanzlerin” on instagram, and constantly playing with passport covers, fascist political speeches and obviously memes, the work took other dimensions by becoming a platform of its own, its own “government”, its own “museum”.
The Cabaret performance "One Way Ticket" is a SHOW that uses "editing" as its core language. Presenting an assemblage of lip-syncs, memes, screenshots, and videos that appropriates journalistic excerpts and elements of pop culture through repetition and reinterpretation, Lux uses editing to highlight the cruelty that is hidden between the lines and the ridiculous features of western culture that are still normalized in the media.
