Connecting a sauna to a club, with wellness interventions such as massage, aufguss and aromatherapy, Aufguss was a collective experience conceived By Naya de Souza, in collaboration with JULIAN CURICO @BOARBERLIN and ELIAS @DUMPBERLIN. What we do in the club is the same practice that has always been performed by almost every culture. You can change the scenario, the attire, the rhythm, but you cannot change the function: Dancing is memory. Afro-Cuban philosophy teaches us that we do not dance to forget, we dance to remember. Colonial and anti-LGBTIQ+ policies marginalized dancing as a strategy of control, turning clubbing into something synonymous with self destruction. Wellness has historically used music, dance and frequencies as medical practices; they were never separate. Aufguss’s dancefloor, like any other club, is a space to rehearse utopias, bringing together what should have never been separated: wellness and music. It’s a lab that brings wellness and harm reduction practices to the dark room, dance floor and bar, allowing us to experience the medicine of movement without self destruction.

The German word Aufguss translates literally to “infusion” or “pouring on”. It is a masculine noun (der Aufguss) formed by combining two parts of the German language

• auf-: A prefix meaning "on," "up," or "onto" (indicating motion directed upward or onto a surface).

• Guss: A noun derived from the verb gießen (to pour, cast, or shed), meaning "a pour," "a cast," or "a stream of liquid."

• And also a spoken word performance by Naya de Souza.
